Central Valley School District’s Liberty Creek Elementary Dedication

On Tuesday, August 15th, the Superintendent of the Central Valley School District, Ben Small, led a large group of students, parents, community members, and design and construction team representatives into the first new school to open under their exceptionally successful bond program. Mr. Small opened the doors to Liberty Creek Elementary and led the excited group to the school library, where he showed off enormous picture windows.

“The thing that’s unique about Liberty Creek Elementary, this school was paid for completely by a grant from the State of Washington for class size reduction,” Small said.

Liberty Creek Elementary has three wings – each devoted to one grade: kindergarten, first and second. It’s also the first school in the district to offer full-day kindergarten and a laudable 17-students-to-one-teacher learning ratio.

“Being a K-2 school, we were able to really build this school based on that $20.8-million grant. We were able to free up local resources to build Riverbend and North Pines Middle School,” Small explained as he guided the tour through the brand new, adaptive school.

Enjoying the sites were also representatives from OAC Services, who provided construction management services for the entire bond program, and were instrumental to acquiring the grant through the State of Washington for Liberty Creek Elementary.

“I’m just incredibly proud,” Jeff Jurgensen, OAC’s Spokane Eastern Washington Regional Director, said. “We went on this journey with the school district, we trusted each other, we challenged each other, and we made the incredible happen. Watching the families here, the way the community has embraced this bond program and now this school, it’s inspiring.”

Over the next few weeks, Central Valley School District will host dedication ceremonies for four renovated schools – Evergreen Middle School, Greenacres Elementary, Chester Elementary and Sunrise Elementary. The bond program continues with five more schools in various phases.
