Project Overview

OAC provided project and construction management and constructability review for a construction bond program for Cheney Public Schools. Bond efforts included two new middle schools (Cheney and Westwood Middle Schools), one new elementary (Snowdon Elementary), and a twenty-acre sports field complex.

The two prototype middle schools are each 110,700 square feet. Cheney Middle School is located on an existing middle school site and replaces the existing school, which remained occupied during construction Westwood Middle School is a new expansion school and the site featured wetlands, which required offsite mitigation and a JARPA permit through the federal Department of Ecology. Construction occurred concurrently by two different general contractors at both middle schools.

The new elementary school was completed in time for the new school year. The 10-acre school site has low-quality wetlands that required offsite mitigation. The site also presented challenges due to poor soils and shallow depths to rock.

OAC is working with Cheney Public Schools on their most recent capital improvement bond as well. The current improvement projects include expansions and modernizations at Cheney High School, Betz Elementary, Salnave Elementary, Snowdon Elementary, Sunset Elementary, and Windsor Elementary.
