Project Overview

OAC was selected to provide project and construction management services for several projects for the Quillayute Valley School District (QVSD), including the Biomass Boiler Building, Middle School HVAC Upgrades and High School Addition. By developing the program scope, schedule, budgeting tools, and overall coordination and integration plan for the projects, OAC provided the district with a full suite of services that not only met their needs, but exceeded their objectives.

The QVSD program was unique – it included the first biomass boiler for a K12 school in Washington State. This pilot project was partially funded by a grant approved by the state legislature. The biomass boiler provides heating for a middle school and high school. A critical element of the project was managing Olympic Region Clean Air Agency requirements efficiently to avoid impacting the tight planning and construction schedule.

Other elements of the overall program included managing a new, 45,000-square-foot addition to an existing high school, the new, 4,000-square-foot biomass boiler building, and HVAC upgrades for eleven classrooms at the district’s middle school, as well as coordinating a $22.5-million state grant. Each of the projects were completed on-time and under budget.
