Promoting a culture of trust and sustained collaboration leads to program success
What goes into building a 24/7/365 day operating facility? Avoiding interruption and maintaining operations for an occupied facility is key! OAC provided construction management and day-to-day oversight for the modernization of 65,000+ square feet of Sound Transit’s Central Operations and Maintenance Facility (COMF). The COMF houses staff and resources from both Sound Transit and King County Metro, that continually maintain and operate the region’s fleet of light rail vehicles.
We provided the services and expertise essential for managing an active facility. We coordinated safety/quality inspections and phased construction, monitored controlled access to critical infrastructure and contractor compliance, and change management. We managed a streamlined process by overseeing facility testing, commissioning, and executing project closeout.
OAC communicated effectively with multiple stakeholders, including Sound Transit’s design engineering, construction management, project management, facilities management, and KCM operations teams, to increase transparency and collaboration. Mitigating risk meant mitigating pandemic-related impacts. Potential construction schedule and cost impacts? No problem. Through OAC’s expert consultive efforts, the schedule and budget remained on track. As a result, Sound Transit avoided disruption to the region’s light rail operating needs and resources.
