In the fast-paced world of construction management, staying ahead of the curve and embracing industry advancements are key to achieving success. The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) exemplifies this commitment by promoting a thriving construction management community in the Pacific Northwest. With a strong focus on collaboration, professional development, and industry excellence, CMAA brings together construction management experts, practitioners, and students to drive innovation and growth.

CMAA provides a platform for industry professionals to connect, share knowledge, and learn from one another. Through a variety of events, including conferences, seminars, and workshops, PNW CMAA offers valuable networking opportunities and educational sessions that keep its members up to date with the latest trends and best practices.

Making Better Happen at PNW CMAA 2023 Annual Conference

Recently, several OAC team members had the opportunity of speaking at the PNW CMAA 2023 Annual Conference, taking place at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The conference gathered construction management professionals, industry leaders, and innovators from across the region. Acting as a melting pot of ideas, the conference fostered collaboration and the exchange of proven approaches. Our team was in the midst of it all, showcasing their expert skills and lessons learned.

Jeff Jurgensen, OAC Senior Vice President and leader of OAC’s education market sector, has been a CMAA member for 17 years. He shared the stage with other esteemed industry experts to discuss all things Progressive Design-Build (PDB), emphasizing the key characteristics that enable successful PDB implementation. Jeff highlighted communication as the “secret sauce” for achieving construction success and better outcomes.

As OAC HR Director, boasting 20+ years of experience, Krista DeGroat collaborated with top-notch experts to address the pressing topic of employee retention strategies amidst labor shortages. Her session highlighted the significance of hiring the right people, keeping them happy, and embracing diversity and inclusion. Krista stressed that effective communication with employees is the key to retention, focusing on the importance of prioritizing their whole well-being, including physical, mental, and emotional safety.

David Jobs, OAC Senior Vice President and leader of OAC’s government and transportation market sector, has been a CMAA member for 20 years. Dave participated in two compelling sessions alongside industry partners. In one session, he moderated the panel discussion on Progressive Design-Build. In the other, he shared practical techniques for successful contract proposals focusing on client engagement, pursuit management, and proposal writing.

Bringing together construction management professionals across the PNW, it’s safe to say the CMAA 2023 Annual Conference was a success.
