Turning challenges into opportunities

Cheney Public Schools had concerns regarding overcrowding and rapid growth in elementary schools. Hired to oversee project management, OAC was brought onboard for the district’s voter-approved $52-million bond campaign.

To accelerate the program, OAC recommended a simultaneous design, construction, and occupancy schedule at all schools. During the early design phases, we worked alongside the architect to review the previous year’s bond planning. With the help of the district and OSPI School Facilities, our team of experts found that Cheney High School was eligible for supplemental state funding. Our discovery led to the use of 20,580 square feet of available new construction. Overall, the district received an added $6 million in state funding assistance.

All projects were completed on schedule, within budget, and exceeded the district’s expectations. Accommodating current students and future student growth allows Cheney Public Schools to meet its needs for the next decade, while providing flexible learning environments.
