Meeting best practice standards for patient care and infection control

The Maleng Building opened in 2008 and currently houses 73 ICU and acute care beds, in private and semi-private layouts. The Ninth and Jefferson Building (NJB), located one block north of the Maleng Building, opened in 2009 and serves Harborview Medical Center (HMC) as a 14-story medical office tower.

OAC led King County through their first Progressive Design-Build healthcare procurement and has been engaged since early contracting, selection, and programming. We are leading the coordination of two design and construction projects under one budget and schedule.

This project will convert 2 18,000-square-foot outpatient clinic floors in the Maleng Building into inpatient units, providing up to 40 new single patient rooms. The work will occur over 2 phases: The first phase of the project will renovate 2 21,000-square-foot floors in the NJB, allowing the Maleng outpatient clinics to relocate. The second phase will convert the 2 vacated Maleng clinic floors into inpatient care units and single patient occupancy. This project will provide additional single-patient beds to the campus, helping provide better care to the surrounding community.
