Existing campus redevelopment in the heart of UTC
BioMed Realty’s (BMR) new discover@UTC campus was a multi-year, multi-phased, redevelopment of an existing campus in one of the top biotech markets in the country – San Diego. The original buildings were constructed in the late 1980s as office buildings, and one was converted into a lab building in the late 1990s. OAC represented BMR throughout the project and was integral to the project’s successful delivery. We coordinate and manage various architects, general contractors, direct owner vendors, and tenant representatives.
The campus redevelopment consisted of 4 renovated buildings and a courtyard redevelopment. Work included tenant improvements and renovations on state-of-the-art labs and office buildings, roof and existing traffic coating replacements, restoration of architectural metal entry feature, refreshing of the lobbies, and new amenity centers. This redevelopment was crucial to meeting the industry’s evolving demands and allowing groundbreaking research and San Diego’s innovative life science community to thrive.
In collaboration with vendors and contractors, OAC helped deliver the campus’ successful completion that exceeded client expectations. Our firm’s attention to detail, 65+ year industry experience, effective communication, and foresight allowed us to generate significant project savings. It’s safe to say BMR and its tenants will be enjoying a “premier life science park” for years to come.
